The exploitation of marine molluscs in the Geometric site of Skala Oropou

In this paper we present the molluscan remains data from the Geometric site of Skala Oropou, taking into account several and diverse research options. The analysis of the taxa recovered allowed us to indicate the ecological origin of the encountered species and the methods of collection or fishing involved. The study of the traces permitted to understand pre- and post- deposition phenomena. In addition, the research attempted a spatial study and the description in an archaeological context in order to suggest the possible uses of the molluscs at the site. A fundamental deduction of this research is the discrete but omnipresent use of the molluscs and of their shells in the everyday life of the habitants of Skala Oropou ; although this conclusion is based on a sampling process which, unfortunately, fragmentary.
