Paper abstract
The transition from the Late Bronze to the Early Iron Age in Thessaly: some thoughts
- Georganas Ioannis
The aim of this paper is to present some thoughts on the issue of the transition between the Bronze and the Iron Age in Thessaly. Research so far has indicated that while Thessaly did not escape the catastrophe during this crucial period, the effects seem to have been less dramatic and therefore continuity can be seen in settlement occupation, in the field of burial customs and in some aspects of the material culture. In this paper, focus will be given to the evidence for continuity in the field of burial customs, especially as it is suggested by the continuous construction and use of tholos tombs as well as by the use of the same burial grounds in both the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages.
