The end of the Dark Ages - the beginning of a new period (the Early Orientalizing period)

Χαραλαμπίδου Ξένια

The terminus post quem of the Dark Ages in Euboea and its neighboring areas, such as Oropos, that is the years around 700 BC until the first half of the 7th century, still remains “dark” in some ways and needs thorough research. Many questions arise and will be discussed during this presentation. Two different ceramic traditions, the Subgeometric and the Orientalizing, are produced together for quite a long time. Is there a break with the LG IIb pottery tradition or a slow development towards the ceramic style of the first half of the 7th century BC? Is there a continuation of old shapes or an evolution of new shapes? And where do we base our chronological framework of the pottery produced during this period?
