“The lives of our grandparents”: an educational experiment of oral history for primary students
The paper will present the findings from an educational experiment for primary school students entitled “The lives of our grandparents”; through oral testimonies, 11 years old students investigate questions concerning different aspects of childhood (everyday life, education, leisure, work) in postwar world; the final result of the project was the production of an ethnographical film made by the students themselves. Analyzing the audiovisual material produced in the class, the paper will discuss issues concerning the concept of ‘orality’ and its use in education, as well as the acquisition of special skills (question making, development of critical historical thinking, group work, work in a digital environment).
