Co-creating a museum exhibition on migration: students and parents explore ways to present immigrants’ life stories in a museum

The shift of oral history research interest toward the history of different ethno-cultural communities coincides in time with the opening of the museum to broader audiences and the so-called "community" museology. This contribution presents aspects of primary school children and their parents, immigrants and natives, who participated in organizing museum exhibitions on migration. The research subjects participated in three different action research programs with a reflective mood to suggest ways to use immigrants’ life stories in the museum. They also contributed to shape a “transformative” educational framework, which promotes equal participation, intercultural interaction and cultural empathy.
