The extraterritorial biographies of Rahel Varnhagen and Jacques Offenbach
In the 30s, Hannah Arendt and Siegfried Kracauer investigated the
assimilation process of Jews through Rahel Varnhagen's and Jacques
Offenbach's biographies.
Shortly before Hitler's rise, the experience of the two Jews - who had
lived more than a century earlier - gave them the opportunity to weigh
up the possibility to live out of a national perspective.
