Marxist Historiographies
The paper explores the possibility of studying the formation of Marxist historiographies in the 20th century outside strictly localized frameworks. In this perspective the paper focuses on Greek historiography within the wider field of the "Continent Marx" primarily in pre and post-WWII Western European culture and politics. Themes and concepts are drawn from the Italian and British historiography. Emphasis is given on
a. the critique on "idealism" on behalf of Marxist historians mainly in the first half of the 20th century,
b. the rise of "social and economic history" and
c. the fusion of Marxist perspectives in historical analysis with other schools or trends of thought, i.e. the "Annales" or feminism.
