The Geometric West Quarter of Eretria - New Results and Hypothesis

During the campaign of 2008, the sandy bed of a former creek was located in most of the opened trenches. All of them were located in the south of the West Quarter. Some late geometric sherds, which were found on top of the creek's bed, point strongly to the possibility, that the creek carried on no water at the time, the sherds were deposited on the sandy bed. It is not to be excluded, that the often discussed correction of the river, which was undertaken in the north of the West Quarter, was responsible for the drainage of the creek in the south. If this hypothesis was correct, the formerly proposed date of the correction of the river, as well as the organisation of the geometric settlement at Eretria need some reconsideration.
