The Early Neolithic Pottery from Thessaly and Central Greece.

Agatha Reingruber
[Researcher, German Archaeological Institute, Berlin]

The ceramic finds from Argissa Magoula are re-evaluated after 50 years since their first brief presentation by Vladimir Milojcic. The goal of this paper is to establish a basis for an Eastern Thessalian chronological scheme supported also by 14C-dates. In a further step connections with Western Thessaly will be analyzed after which attention will be turned towards common traits and differences with regions to the South. Discussing the issue of how the ceramic provinces are interrelated is vital in understanding how not only the first but also the consequent generations of peasants established the Neolithic way of life in Thessaly and Central Greece.
