Thebes Ismenion Synergasia Project, 2011

With this paper the co-Directors of the Thebes Ismenion synergasia present the results of the 2011 season, the first season of the project. We first analyze the results of three geophysical surveys: magnetic, electromagnetic, and topographic. In this paper these results will be juxtaposed together and compared to the newly redone and electronic temple plan. Next, results of the excavations both on the Ismenion hill and in the area to the hill's northwest will be presented. We will compare a new Byzantine bothros with others found in Thebes (e.g., from the Pelopidas Street excavations). We will also present the results of the bone study of two Byzantine graves from the Ismenion hill. In the final section of the paper we will briefly discuss plans for the 2012 excavation season.
